Theory 23: There Are Forces in the Universe Still Unknown, and Elements That Remain Undiscovered
1. Dark matter and dark energy
Dark matter is an invisible substance that makes up about 27 percent of the universe and can only be detected through its gravitational effects; its true nature remains unknown. Dark energy is a mysterious force responsible for the accelerating expansion of the universe, making up about 68 percent of the universe's total energy; its nature, too, remains a mystery.
2. Unknown fundamental forces
We currently know of four fundamental forces: gravity, electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force, and the weak nuclear force. But some theories, such as superstring theory, predict that additional forces or dimensions may exist that have not yet been discovered.
3. Elements beyond the periodic table
To date, 118 elements have been identified on the periodic table, but scientists believe heavier elements may exist, forming under special laboratory conditions or inside stars. Such elements may lie within a theoretical island of stability, where atomic nuclei remain stable for much longer periods.
4. Unknown cosmic phenomena
Phenomena such as fast radio bursts, primordial black holes, and even the extra dimensions predicted by multiverse theories are still not fully understood.
5. Grand Unified Theory
Scientists are working to combine the universe's fundamental forces into a single unified theory, an effort that may lead to the discovery of new forces or particles.
In general, the universe is full of wonders still awaiting discovery. Technological progress and scientific efforts, such as particle physics experiments at the Large Hadron Collider and cosmic observations from telescopes like the James Webb Space Telescope, are helping us draw closer to these mysteries.
