Theory 36: After the Current Universe Changes, All Its Laws Will Change Too

Last updated: 2025-10-24 20:25:52

This idea touches on some of the deepest mysteries of existence. Yes, if the universe were to reach an entirely new stage of being, through some cosmic paradigm shift, the laws governing it might transform as well.

1. Theoretical physics
The theory of cosmic phase transition predicts that our universe could shift into an entirely new state, much as ice transforms into water. In such a state, physical constants such as the speed of light could change, fundamental forces such as gravity and electromagnetism might behave differently, and even the dimensions of spacetime could be redefined.

2. Metaphysics and mysticism
Ancient texts speak of such transformation. The Quran refers to a day when the earth will be replaced by another earth (14:48), and the concept of Brahman in Hinduism points to a universe whose laws lie beyond present human understanding. Such a transformation might alter the laws of cause and effect, dissolve the boundaries of space and time, and give rise to entirely new forms of life.

3. Astonishing consequences
If the laws of physics were to change, remarkable possibilities could follow: entropy might decrease instead of only increasing; speeds faster than light might become possible; matter might spontaneously arise from nothing, all of which run contrary to our current physical laws.

4. Leading theories
Brane cosmology, within M-theory, predicts that the collision of cosmic branes could rewrite the laws of physics. Some physicists have also speculated that if the universe functions as a kind of computational system, its underlying program could itself be altered.

A closing thought
The idea that a change in the universe implies a change in its laws echoes Einstein's own remark, in essence, that nothing in the universe is truly fixed, not even the constancy of its constants. A provocative question follows: if the laws of physics were one day to change, would our memories, our history, and our very identity change along with them? This idea is not only scientific, but poetic as well, evoking the image of a new universe with new laws arriving much as snow rewrites the rules of the season.
